Akagi is a badass. Discuss.

(Going to see how many people discuss it here as opposed to the blog post comments. Call it an experiment.)

Sometimes it seems like Akagi would have to have ESP or something to know some of his gambles would pay off. I guess you can attribute that to his flow and/or genius (or if you want to be meta, plot armor.)

Any way, Fukumoto's art has drastically improved since the early chapters of Ten and Akagi. He still has his distinctive style but he is a lot better about keeping things in scale and has cleaner lines.

It feels less like he has some grand scheme that ensures this working and more that he thinks this is the best option available to him. But Washizu doesn't seem like the type to fold out of his kokushi tenpai even if he draws one of Akagi's possible "winners"... so I guess we'll see.

That's a bold move by Akagi.

I can only imagine that Suzuki will draw a Haku next , and can't deal it because of Akagi's potential Atamahane. That'd seal off Washizu's Tenpai.

This chapter reminds me of his match against Ichikawa when he bluffed his way through by dealing the dora and near-dora tiles.

I like this bluff more though, in fact, it might be my favorite Akagi bluff in the series as he has the balls to declare riichi in no-ten and doesn't even pursue the Kokushi, but goes for the bluff right from the beginning by gathering opaque tiles.

It's really a desperate last-ditch gamble in my eyes. Washizu will eventually draw the Haku at the rate this is going, so at the very least Akagi has to seem like some sort of threat or he'll get rolled for sure.

BUT WHERE WILL THE HAKU'S GO?!

Really? I think it will probably be the opposite, where Washizu becomes shaken by this, and his luck will falter, unbeknownst to him. I'd guess that he'd draw one of Akagi's potential "winners", and thinking that his luck is good, will try to incorporate it into his hand, and maybe win with a different hand, like a chantaiyao (sp? the one where you have terminals/honours in each set), probably dealt into by his ally, whose name I have forgotten. I feel this will have a similar effect to Akagi's Kokushi bluff against Ichikawa, and cause the "flow" to turn.

Also, Ohgi has a terrible pokerface
